7.       Adopt the following ordinances on second and final reading:

 

a)       Ordinance No. 8831, amending Chapter 6, Article 12 of the City Code to revise the standards related to sidewalk dining to address umbrella height, railing materials, and amplified music and sound within sidewalk dining areas.

 

b)       Ordinance No. 8834, establishing a Community Improvement District to utilize special assessments to fund underground utilities along Pennsylvania Street.

 

8.       Authorize the Mayor to sign letters to the Douglas County legislative delegation concerning local elections, the city’s budget process, the regulation of the carrying of concealed handguns in city buildings and facilities, and local employee groups.  Adopt Resolution No. 7005, opposing House Bill 2123, as requested by the Lawrence Police Officers Association and Local 1596 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.   Staff Memo & Attachments

ACTION:      Set bid date of March 26 19, 2013 for the Lawrence Public Library Renovation project, if appropriate.

 

 

2.       Receive recommendation from the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission concerning the proposed establishment of a cultural district in Lawrence (generally bound by 15th Street on the south, the Burroughs Creek Trail on the east, the Kansas River on the north and Vermont Street on the west) and consider establishing a task force to make recommendations related to the cultural district.    Staff Memo & Attachments    Correspondence

150th Anniversary Advisory Committee:

This is a new committee that shall have nine (9) members and will be tasked with advising the City Commission on the implementation of the 150th Anniversary schedule of events and to recognize the 150th Anniversary of the August 21, 1863 raid on the City of Lawrence by Quantrill and his followers.

 

Community Development Advisory Committee:

One vacancy for a position that expired 09/30/12.

 

Electrical Code Board of Appeals:

One vacancy for a position that expired 03/31/12.  Eligibility requirements exist for this board.

 

Human Relations Commission:

Two vacancies for positions that expired 09/30/12.  One vacancy for a position that expires 09/30/14.

 

Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging:

Two vacancies on the Advisory Council, one expiring 09/30/12 and one expiring 09/30/14.

 

Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission:

Four positions expired 01/31/13 and are eligible for reappointment to additional terms.  One vacancy for a position that expired 01/31/13.
