Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

 

Approve change orders in the amount of $302,532.37 to R.D. Johnson for work performed on Kasold Drive from 6th Street to Bob Billings Parkway, Project (CIP# PW17E1).

 

Executive Summary:

 

The city awarded the bid for the Kasold project to R.D. Johnson Excavating in February for $5,869,920.85. The project is included in both the 2017 and 2018 Budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP# PW17E1) with a budget of $8,075,000.

The City Commission approved change orders 1-6 in the amount of $55,765.37 at the August 14, 2018 City Commission meeting.

 

Additional project change orders:

·         Irrigation repairs for ($36,438.21)

·         Removal of unsuitable subgrade material and replacement with rock and geogrid ($141,431.55)

·         Additional crosswalk pushbutton pedestals ($14,363.33)

·         Additional HDPE Pipe and drain at 8th & Kasold ($3550.00)

·         Install and tie in drops in sanitary sewer manholes ($3690.00)

·         Additional grading at 8th & Kasold ($1490.00)

The total of these change orders is $200,963.09.

 

Staff recommends removal and replacement of the concrete pavement, curb and gutter of the westbound approach to the Kasold and Bob Billings intersection (see attached). The scope of the project did not include this area; however, replacement is recommended because of fatigue and d-cracking at the joints.  The change order cost is $101,569.28 and will be absorbed in the project budget. Work will commence after all contracted work on Kasold Drive is complete and performed one lane at a time to maintain westbound traffic.
