CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
Week ending February 15, 2008
Overland Park Voters Renew 1/8
Cent Sales Tax for Streets
Overland Park voters recently renewed a 1/8 cent sales tax
dedicated to streets. The proposition, voted on by mail-in ballot, passed with
75 percent approval. The estimated $34.5 million to be generated from
2009-2014 would provide funds for continued improvement and replacement of residential
neighborhood streets (including construction, curb
replacement, new sidewalks and street light upgrades)
as well as funding a thoroughfare street improvement program, which will widen
thoroughfares and enhance traffic management systems and traffic flow. Please
see the attached press
release, ballot
language, and presentation
regarding the sales tax program. The total sales tax in Overland Park remains at 7.525% (5.3%
State, 1.125% city, 1.1% county).

Golf Course 2007 Report

provides a report on 2007 activities and discusses plans for improvements and
new programs in 2008.
Park Road Maintenance - Clinton
Lake
Since 1995 the City of
Lawrence has leased the 1612 acres of park land
that lies below the Clinton
Lake Dam
from the Corp of Engineers. As a part of this lease the City has maintained all
of the park roads located on this property except the road that runs along the
base of the dam (see attached map). This
road’s primary purpose is to provide access to the City operated dog park,
adult soccer fields, picnic shelters, fishing areas, golf course and model
airplane field. The Corp of Engineers has been successful in securing federal
funding to improve and widen this road in the summer of 2008. As a condition of
this funding, all future road maintenance of this road will become the responsibility
of the City (see attached message
from Lew Ruona, Operations Project Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers).
City Proposals Not Selected for KDOT Funding
The City has received notification
that two projects were not selected for KDOT funding in the fiscal year 2011
program: a Geometric Improvement project on US-40 from Monterey Way to Folks Road, and an Economic Development
Project on K-10 at Franklin Road.
State-wide only two projects were selected, for a total of $1.2 million in KDOT
funds, compared to the $12 million of projects funded in the previous year. The
K-10 and Franklin Road
project will also be submitted as a federal funding request.
