Ordinances Increasing Franchise Fees
|
As part of the 2007 City of Lawrence Budget, the City Commission adopted Ordinance 8030, increasing the franchise fee paid by Westar Energy for selling and distributing electricity from 4% of total gross receipts to 5% of total gross receipts. The City Commission also authorized the preparation of ordinances phasing in increases of franchise fees for other utility providers.
Attached please find correspondence and draft ordinances sent to the representatives of other utilities regarding franchise fees. In addition, we have been negotiating a franchise agreement with Atmos Energy.
We have offered to meet with representatives of the utilities to discuss the ordinances and will attempt to schedule those meetings before the end of the year. Ordinances will be then be forwarded to the City Commission for adoption.
