Lawrence and Douglas
County Honored for
Innovation in GIS
The City of Lawrence and Douglas County
were recently awarded a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award at the
Twenty-sixth Annual ESRI International User Conference. The SAG award recognized the efforts of the
City and County to share data between the organizations and make GIS widely
accessible and useful to personnel in all departments. The attached supporting
materials include information on the project and the team that
completed it.
Kasold
Construction Update
Work is currently progressing on the East side of Kasold from 15th Street
to 22nd Street. The water line is nearly complete and the
storm sewer should be finished during the first part of September. Paving should begin in late September. From August 23rd though September
1st traffic will be reduced to one lane controlled by flag crews
while deep excavations for storm sewers are underway. Attached are some photos
of the project from this week.
eGov
Update Presented to Management Team
On Wednesday, August 16, eGov Coordinator Eric Gruber, GIS Coordinator
Bryce Hirschman, and Information Systems Director Ron Hall updated
the Management Team on the City’s efforts to improve e-government. The attached documents are summaries of the eGov
II initiative and completed
projects.

Benefit/Cost Report for KDOT Safety Program Projects
KDOT has submitted the attached report
(also see Public Works staff
memo) to the Federal Highway Administration regarding two
projects completed through the KDOT Safety Program. The projects involved adding left turn lanes
and upgrading the signals at 27th & Iowa and 23rd & Barker.
Watershed Protection Meeting Attended by City Staff
Representatives from the City of Lawrence recently attended a meeting sponsored by the Kaw
Valley Heritage Alliance/WRAPS coordinator to discuss watershed protection for
the Upper Wakarusa Watershed
Basin. Water Quality Manager Shari Stamer has been involved with the WRAPS (Watershed
Restoration and Protection Strategy) group in developing watershed protection
strategy over the last few years. The
attached staff
memo contains information and topics of discussion from the meeting.
