Re:

Update on Airport Improvement Project

The Parallel Taxiway Project for the Lawrence Municipal Airport had an original scope for construction of a parallel taxiway for Runway 1-19.  As noted in a previous memo to the City Commission, the bid from Hamm Inc. came in at an amount higher than the funding available from FAA.  City staff has been working with Hamm’s and the Airport Development Group (the City’s consultant for the project) to reduce the scope of the project to allow for a beneficial portion of the taxiway to be built while staying within the confines of the funding available.  To that end, a change order was submitted to FAA which removed the northern section of the taxiway, allowing the project to move forward with construction this year.  Construction of the taxiway at the reduced scope will provide safety benefits to the operations at the airport.

As we are in the process of submitting a grant application to FAA for funding of the project, we wanted to update the Commission on the status of the scope change.  Attached please find a letter from FAA concurring with the award of the contract to Hamm, Inc., conditioned upon the proper execution of the change order providing the aforementioned change of scope.  Also attached is a revised total project cost breakdown reflecting the change order.
