Executive Summary: |
Streets/Storm Water operations identified the replacement of unit 735 in the CIP/budget process (PW21F11CIP). This unit is primarily used in storm water infrastructure maintenance and repair, but also supports levee maintenance. The current excavator has had challenges with effective maintenance due to its limited size and reach. In the CIP process, staff had determined that a larger unit, that would fit in a similar footprint, would improve operations and be more efficient. Street/Storm water staff evaluated multiple vender demonstration units to determine the operational effectiveness of each unit. Staff overwhelmingly agreed that the Caterpillar performance, safety, and ease of maintenance was the most advantageous for their operational needs.
The final cost of the excavator including trade is $203,625.00. Staff is recommending adding the bolt on rubber pads to the tracks to prevent damage to pavement when the equipment is working on pavement. The added cost is $16,500 for a total purchase of $220,625.00. |
