Authorize the City Manager to execute an Extension of Lease Agreement with the Shelter, Inc. for 342 Missouri Street |

Executive Summary: |
Since 1982, the City has leased to the Shelter, Inc., the house located at 342 Missouri Street. The Shelter, Inc. requests, and staff recommends, another five-year extension of the lease, with the remaining terms of the agreement unchanged. The Shelter, Inc. pays $100 per month in rent for the facility.
The Shelter, Inc. provides emergency residential care for children placed with them following action by law enforcement or the court. In addition to providing emergency housing for children, the Shelter, Inc. also provides crisis intervention to families and refers families and children to other community agencies, as needed. The Shelter, Inc. identifies emergency placement options in the community for children, if there is a significant risk to a child or the community. The Shelter, Inc. provides Juvenile Offender Services and other family services. The mission of the agency is, “to improve the lives of children and families. We serve children from all over the state of Kansas in our home community of Lawrence.” |
