Executive Summary: |
The Paris Climate Agreement is an effort sponsored by the United Nations to get nations to cooperate in addressing global warming and climate change.
On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order to nullify President Obama’s climate change efforts.
On April 18, 2017, the City Commission authorized Mayor Soden to sign the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda letter to the President objecting to efforts by the President to roll back critically important U.S. climate policies, and urging the President to embrace the Paris Climate Agreement Commitment.
In response to President Trump’s June 1, 2017 withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, Mayor Soden signed onto a statement, on behalf of the City Commission, expressing support for the Paris Climate Agreement consistent with the previous actions of the City, which were approved at the April 18, 2017 meeting.
