Sports Pavilion Lawrence – Economic Impact of Tournaments
Since January of 2015 Parks & Recreation Department staff has worked with tournament directors and Explore Lawrence staff to try and quantify the economic impact of tournaments held at Sports Pavilion Lawrence. Tournament directors have provided information on the number of teams, the average number of people associated with each team, and how many teams are spending the night in Lawrence for each event.
Using information obtained from Explore Lawrence, LPRD estimates the facility has generated and estimated $4,410,676 in economic impact for the Lawrence community in 2016. The Hardwood Classic, held at SPL on July 21-24 of this year, generated an estimated $1,091,312 of this total. These estimates assume that overnight stays generate $159 a night and day trippers generate approximately $63 a day. The Hardwood Classic booked 998 hotel room nights and brought in an additional 4,888 day trippers. The attached spreadsheet details the economic impact of each tournament/event held at the facility in 2016.
