2016 Paw Valley Festival and 5K – Saturday May 7, 2016 |
The Lawrence Humane Society has applied for a street event temporary use of public right-of-way permit for the 2016 Paw Valley Festival and 5K – Saturday May 7, 2016, benefitting the Lawrence Humane Society. The race would begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. from Watson Park and head west into Old West Lawrence neighborhood (see attached map) and would be concluded by 11:30 a.m. The main impact to downtown will be the closure of Tennessee Street from 7th Street to 8th Street. The Festival portion of the event will be contained within Watson Park. There will also be no alcohol in the right-of-way associated with this event.
The police department has coordinated traffic control on this route for several previous races and has developed a plan that requires little to no police resources for traffic control. All barricades and staff will be solely provided by the applicant.
Notice of this event has been sent to all affected property owners. In addition, Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire/Medical, Lawrence Transit, Downtown Lawrence, Inc., and eXplore Lawrence all have reviewed this permit with no issues.
