Important dates from the Solid Waste Division
The city’s Solid Waste Division announces the following dates for service changes and activities in December and January. Additional information is available here.
· Mondays, December 7th and December 14th – Solid Waste Holiday Toy Drive.
· Saturday, December 12th (weather permitting) – Last Saturday open hours at the Compost Facility; facility re-opens to the public in March 2016.
· Monday, December 21st (weather permitting) – Collection of yard waste ends for the season; collection resumes in March 2016.
· Friday, December 25th – No trash or recycling collections on Christmas Day; collection routes for Friday will be delayed by one day to Saturday.
· Friday, January 1st – No trash or recycling collections on New Year’s Day; collection routes for Friday will be delayed by one day to Saturday.
· Mondays, January 4th and January 11th – Christmas “tree-cycling” collection.
2015 City of Lawrence United Way Campaign
The City of Lawrence’s campaign theme for 2015 was City United-Live United. The City had a goal of raising $29,100, plus the donation of books, toiletries, and canned donations through various activities that centered on the three United Way goals. Employees gave $30,067.31 in pledges and cash. See attached for more information.
Lawrence Featured in December Issue of American Society of Engineers Civil Engineering Magazine
The recently completed project of the Kaw Water Treatment Plant Water transmission main was featured in the December issue of the American Society of Civil Engineers Civil Engineering Magazine. The article is based on a paper the presented by Philip Ciesielski, Assistant Director of Utilities, and Jeff Heidrick, Michael O’Connell, and Shawn Wilson, with Burns & McDonnell at Pipelines 2015, a conference sponsored by ASCE and was presented at the 2015 Kansas Section of the American Water Works Association Annual Conference.
