December building permits

The Building Safety Division issued 165 building permits in December, with total construction for the month valued at $8,853,368. Total permit fees assessed for the month were $42,471. Staff issued five permits for new residential construction in December, all for single-family dwellings. This compares to six permits issued for new residential construction in December last year, also all for single-family dwellings. Downtown lighting improvements save energy and dollars

The Public Works Department has been making energy savings improvements to downtown lighting, including the following:

• June 2011 – Pedestrian lights south of 9th changed to LED
• December 2011 – Pedestrian lights north of 9th changed to LED
• December 2012 – Pedestrian lights north of 9th were changed from 100 watt to 50 watt

As a result of these improvements, energy costs for downtown lighting were $6,694 less in 2012 compared to 2010. Please see the attached report for more information.
