The Building Safety Division issued 165 building permits in December, with total construction for the month valued at $8,853,368. Total permit fees assessed for the month were $42,471. Monthly and year to date comparisons to previous years will be tracked throughout 2012 in the following table:

Staff issued five permits for new residential construction in December, all for single-family dwellings. This compares to six permits issued for new residential construction in December last year, also all for single-family dwellings. Renovation of existing homes is a segment of the construction industry for which tracking of statistics may also be of interest. BSD staff issued ten permits for one- and two-family dwelling remodel and addition projects in December. The following charts compare the numbers of permits issued for both new homes and remodeling projects in December and Year-to-Date for the previous five years:


The highest valued project for the month was for the construction of a public parking garage at 707 Vermont, valued at $4,808,051. Other public projects included a new KU Engineering Research and Teaching Facility at 2105 Becker Dr, valued at $397,000; and work on a new equipment room at the BTBC Incubator at 2029 Becker Dr, valued at $15,000.
