CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Week ending May 20, 2011

Kasold reconstruction update

The Kasold reconstruction (23rd Street to 31st Street) began in December 2010 at a cost of $4.2 million ($1.0 million KDOT and $3.2 million infrastructure sales tax) and has made significant progress to date. The project is just over 40% complete with the two north bound lanes nearly completed. Starting in December has paid off, with the contractor being able to get a majority of the concrete storm sewer and water lines installed during the winter and being ready to treat the subgrade and pave early this spring. The project is progressing on schedule. KDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have done spot inspections / audits of the project which resulted in complimentary comments to staff and the contractor. Please see attached photos of the project.

Transit holds photo shoot for new Guide to Ride cover

The Lawrence Transit system held a photo shoot on Sunday, May 15 to gather images for the upcoming 2011-2012 Guide to Ride and other necessary images for web and print productions.  Approximately 30 citizens volunteered their time to participate in the shoot on a Sunday morning.  The photo shoot incorporated three locations – areas in front of Hobbs-Taylor lofts, South Park and the Visitors Center.  Images will be used by the Transit division to promote public transit and usage in Lawrence.  Staff members Robert Nugent, Emily Lubliner and Megan Gilliland worked to coordinate the photo shoot and ensure its success.
