RE:

1000 block of Vermont Parking – Additional Information

At the April 5, 2011 City Commission meeting the City Commission reviewed the background material concerning the request to alter the parking regulations for the 1000 block of Vermont surface parking lot.  The Commission requested additional information on the number of ten hour parking spaces in the City’s downtown parking system.   The recently completed 2010 parking capacity report is attached as well.

There are 363 ten hour metered parking spaces and 472 ten hour non-metered parking spaces in the downtown parking surface lots and garages, for a total of 835 parking spaces.  This represents 46% of the available (non-Massachusetts Street) lot spaces in the downtown system (there are a total of 1812 available spaces excluding those reserved for city and private).   There are 817 two hour non-metered spaces and there are 83 two hour metered spaces, for a total of 900 two hour spaces (non-Massachusetts Street).  The 900 two hour spaces represent 50% of the available (non-Massachusetts Street) lot spaces in the downtown system (211 of those spaces split among Lot 10 and the garages also serve as ten hour value pass parking, but they are counted as two hour spaces in the parking capacity report). The remaining 4% unaccounted for are the handicapped spaces, and 3 thirty minute meters in the public library lot.

The 2010 parking capacity report provides additional information which may be of value to the Commission in consideration of this issue.
