RE:	Busker Festival 2010

Downtown Lawrence, Inc. (DLI) has submitted a temporary use of right-of-way permit application for the 2010 Lawrence Busker Festival. The application requests the closure of 8^th Street from Massachusetts Street east to the alley from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 20 and 12:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 21 and the use of the various other sidewalk locations on 8/20/10 and 8/21/10 as depicted on the attached map. DLI submitted the attached statements from adjacent businesses in support of the event.

DLI is requesting barricades to close 8^th Street and 10 meter bags. The closure of 8^th will also require a bus reroute. Parks and Recreation will provide extra trash barrels downtown during the event. Staff recommends approval of the right-of-way permits subject to fire medical approval of final site layouts.

ACTION:       Approve temporary use of right-of-way permit for the 2010 Lawrence Busker Festival allowing the closure of 8^th Street from Massachusetts Street east to the alley from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 20 and 12:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 21 and the use of the various other downtown sidewalk locations on 8/20/10 and 8/21/10, if appropriate.
