RE: |
2012 Kansas Shrine Bowl
Please place this item on the 12/29/09 City Commission agenda for consideration.
The Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the University of Kansas, is preparing a bid to host the Kansas Shrine Bowl in Lawrence in July 2012. The CVB has requested a letter of support from the city to include with their bid.
The Kansas Shrine Bowl is a fundraising event benefitting the Shriners Hospital for Children. The Kansas Shrine Bowl is an all-star football game between pre-college football athletes from the east and west sides of the state of Kansas. The game would be played at Memorial Stadium, and associated events include a band camp, cheer camp, cross country camp, parade, 5K run, fairs and other activities (see attached bid requirements for more details).
The major portions of the event that would involve city support would likely be the parade and the 5K run, as well as appropriate law enforcement and emergency medical presence during the game. The CVB is not requesting specific items of support at this time, except for a general letter of support to include with their bid.
ACTION: Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter of support for the Convention and Visitors Bureau and University of Kansas bid to host the 2012 Kansas Shrine Bowl in Lawrence.
