RE:

Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

August 25, 2009 City Commission Agenda Item

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) maintains equipment for navigation of airplanes at the Lawrence Municipal Airport.  The City and the FAA currently have a no-cost land lease identifying specific areas upon which the instruments/equipment are located.  Nationally, the FAA has many similar agreements.

In an effort to reduce paperwork and labor efforts keeping these agreements current, the FAA has decided to use a new format, Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), that contains similar provisions but eliminates legal descriptions.

The FAA maintains six navigational aid facilities at the airport. Legal staff has reviewed the agreement.

Action Requested:  Authorize City Manager to sign Memorandum of Agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Respectfully submitted,

Charles F. Soules, P.E.

Director of Public Works
