On Monday, April 6, 2009 the City of Lawrence, City of Eudora, and Douglas County opened sealed bids for road salt in a cooperative purchasing agreement.  Last year the City purchased 4000 tons of road salt in a cooperative bid with the County for $37.78 a ton.  This year the City requested bids for 3,000 tons of salt with the option to buy an additional 1000 tons in the spring of 2010.  The results are:

Independent Salt	52.45 ton
Cargill Salt	55.49 ton
Hutchinson Salt	58.95 ton

This purchase was budgeted in the 2009 budgeting process.

Recommendation Action: 

Award bid for 3,000 tons of road salt for Public Works Department to Central Salt for $41.64 a ton or $124,920.00 with an option for additional 1,000 tons if needed for $41,640.00, total $166,560.00. (Public Works/Streets)
