Re:	Agreement--Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds Baseball Facilities

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the December 9, 2008 meeting.

In August 2008 Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association (DCABA) president Kent Houk approached the Parks and Recreation Department about the city taking over the operation of DCABA baseball league (See attached document).   The DCABA baseball league has been operated by DCABA since the early 1970’s.  The association provided opportunities for youth ages six through 12 year interested in a more competitive baseball experience.  Lee Ice, LPRD Youth Sports Supervisor recommended this program be added to the other youth sports programs offered by the city.  In order to add this to the programming we had to have the ability to use the DCABA fields at the 4-H fairgrounds.

Parks staff worked with Bill Bell with Douglas County facility operations to develop a cooperative agreement between Douglas County and the City of Lawrence for the use of the baseball fields at the 4-H fairground (see attached agreement.)   This agreement was presented to the Douglas County Commission at the December 1 meeting as a consent item and was approved.

Action Request

Authorize the City Manager to execute agreement with Douglas County for use of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds Baseball Facilities.
