RE:

Downtown Lawrence Film Festival Banner Request

Downtown Lawrence, Inc. (DLI) requests approval from the City Commission to hang a 3’ X 25’ banner on the north end of the New Hampshire Street parking garage from June 2 through August 21, as a “sign of community interest.” This banner differs from most “sign of community interest” requests due to it large size, but as long as it can be temporarily mounted without permanently attaching any mounting hardware to the garage structure, staff can support the request. Also, this banner would hang at the same time as another banner requested by the Convention and Visitors Bureau (also on the consent agenda for the May 27 City Commission meeting).

The banner will advertise for the Downtown Lawrence Film Festival to be held on public and private property on the southwest side of the intersection of 9th Street and New Hampshire Street on several dates this summer. Approval of a Special Event Permit for this event is also on the May 27 City Commission consent agenda for consideration.

ACTION:      Approve as a “sign of community interest” a request from Downtown Lawrence, Inc. to hang a banner on the north end of the New Hampshire Street Parking Garage from June 2 through August 21 for the Downtown Lawrence Film Festival.
