Douglas County

City funds 66% of 911 operations = $962,595 (2007)

County funds 60%

City funds 40% = $618,569 (2007) The City and the County also share building debt and maintenance

Johnson County

County funds and operates countywide 911 system for fire and medical services (2008 budget). Res. 044-77, Res. 049-07  . The Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement dispatching services to 9 of the 15 police departments in the County.  6 police departments provide their own dispatching services (email from Walt Way).  JOCO is building a new county communications center – to be constructed and maintained by the county.  Olathe is also using the facility.

County funds 100% of all health department operations (2008 budget).  Area cities do contribute to the United Community Services programming.

Wichita/Sedgwick County

County funds and operates countywide 911 system.  Until 1994, jointly operated and costs were shared.  In 1994, Sedgwick County took over all 911 operations and all costs are run through a county mil levy.

 

Until 2001 – City split 50/50 with Sedgwick County.  In 2001, Sedgwick County took over all County Health Dept. functions and pays for all operations.  Wichita continues to run child care facility inspections, air quality inspections (federally funded), and restaurant inspections.

 

Topeka/Shawnee County

County funds and operates county wide 911 system which handles all county 911 and other emergency calls.  In 1997, Shawnee County assumed operation of all emergency communication and combined five law enforcement and eight fire agencies in one consolidated dispatch center. Hutchinson/Reno County

911 system – costs shared 50/50 with Reno County/Hutchinson. 1 dispatcher position paid for by City of South Hutchinson.  911 service staff are City employees.

County funds 100% of all health department operations.

Wyandotte County/Unified Gov’t

911 system is county wide and funded through a 911 tax and operates as a special revenue fund.  All county residents pay 0.75 cents per month on their phone bill, which includes Bonner Springs and Edwardsville. (2008 budget)
