RE: Climate Protection Task Force Resolution

At the January 15, 2008 City Commission meeting, following a presentation by the Sustainability Advisory Board, the City Commission directed staff to work with the Mayor and Vice-Mayor to create a Climate Protection Task Force and bring it back to the City Commission for approval.

Project Status/Details:

By adopting the attached resolution, the City of Lawrence will create the Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Protection to develop a climate protection plan in active consultation with the community. The purpose of the Climate Protection Plan will be to report greenhouse gas emissions baseline data for City operations and the community, recommend greenhouse gas emission reduction goals and target timeframes, and to recommend strategies to meet the goals while preserving economic development, transportation options, and the ability of responsible producers of energy to provide stable and cost effective energy supply.

Action Request:

Adopt Resolution No. 6752, establishing the Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Protection.
