CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
2007 Tax Abatement Report
In preparation for the 2007 Tax Abatement Report, later this month the City Clerk’s Office will be mailing a questionnaire to businesses that received tax abatements in 2007. Those businesses are: Allen Press; AMARR Garage Doors; DST Systems; Jayhawk Bowling Supply; Packerware/Berry Plastics; PROSOCO; Reuter Organ; and Sauer Danfoss. The businesses will be asked to complete the questionnaire and return it to the City Clerk’s Office on or before February 29, 2008. The City Clerk’s Office will then prepare a draft 2007 Annual Report for review by the Public Incentive Review Committee (PIRC). As required in City Code provision 1-2125, PIRC will then review the report and forward its recommended report to the City Commission by May 1, 2008.
KLINK Project Approved
The City has received notification from KDOT that the proposed KLINK project for joint repairs on 23rd Street from Haskell Avenue to the east city limits has been selected for funding in Fiscal Year 2010. The estimated total cost for this project is $600,000 and KDOT will provide $200,000.
Request for Capital Improvement Project Submissions
Each year the City of Lawrence prepares a six-year Capital Improvement Plan (see the 2008-2013 CIP) to identify the needs of the community and to prepare a long term funding strategy to meet those needs. The CIP includes any projects with an estimated cost of $50,000 or more that involve repairs or improvements to our existing infrastructure and the acquisition or construction of new infrastructure. The City is now accepting requests for projects to be included in the 2009-2014 CIP. Explanations of the CIP and the CIP development process, as well as project submittal forms and instructions, are available online at http://www.lawrenceks.org/cmo/capital_improvement_program. The attached request for submittals and CIP guidelines and procedures are also being mailed to neighborhood associations, developers and members of the public who have previously requested the materials.
