REQUEST FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT SUBMISSIONS

The process of developing the 2009-2014 Capital Improvement Plan has begun and the public is encouraged to submit improvement projects for consideration.  If you have identified projects with an estimated cost of $50,000 or more that would address a need in your neighborhood or elsewhere in the City, or if you are developing a project that will be funded through the creation of benefit districts and/or you anticipate requesting City financial participation, now is the time to submit those projects.

Each year, the City of Lawrence prepares a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).  This six-year CIP allows the City to identify the needs of the community and to prepare a long term funding strategy to meet those needs.  It includes any projects that involve needed repairs or improvements to our existing infrastructure (streets, parks, city facilities, sewers, etc.) and the acquisition or construction of new infrastructure (fire stations, traffic signals, roundabouts, etc.) with an estimated cost of $50,000 or more.

Each year, projects in the CIP are reviewed and ranked according to a set of criteria.  The City Commission uses the ranking to determine which projects to fund in the City’s Capital Improvement Budget.

The forms needed to submit a project for consideration as well as guidelines and procedures for their completion and an explanation of the Capital Improvement Plan and the CIP development process can be found at http://www.lawrenceks.org/cmo/capital_improvement_program.

The deadline for submittals is 5:00p.m. on February 29, 2008.  Materials can be emailed to bjwalthall@ci.lawrence.ks.us or mailed to the City Manager’s Office, Attn: CIP, P.O. Box 708, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Please contact Bobbie Walthall at 785-832-3400 or bjwalthall@ci.lawrence.ks.us with any questions.

The City looks forward to hearing from you.
