September 20, 2007 Agenda Item |
Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the September 20, 2007 meeting:
Approval of Change Order No. 1 (FINAL) for 2007 Microsurfacing Program – Project No. 08-SR3-307(C)
Project History. The microsurfacing program is a road maintenance contract for use on streets that are in relatively good condition. The surfacing is intended to prolong the life of the pavement and defer the need for a more costly mill and overlay. The contract was awarded to Vance Brothers, Inc. on May 8, 2007 for $468,316.50. Since the bid was well below the budget amount of $600,000 the award was actually approved for $525,000 to allow for additional work as needed.
Project Details. This change order includes an adjustment in the type and price for patching as well as the final quantity adjustments for all bid items. The original bid included all patching in one bid item. However, the work required two distinct types of patching, full-depth and skin patching. The cost per square yard for the skin patching is significantly different than full-depth. The traffic control was also more than originally anticipated. Since this was the first year for using the microsurfacing process the amount of traffic control required was not completely known.
Project Status. The project was complete on August 29, 2007. Final contract amount is $534,803.84, which is $9,803.84, or 1.87%, above the contract award amount.
Project Funding. The project is funded from the pavement maintenance funds allocated from the general fund. There is adequate funding left in the budget to cover the change order amount.
Action Request. Public Works staff requests approval of Change Order No. 1 (FINAL) for $9,803.84.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dena E. Mezger, P.E.
Asst. Public Works Director
