RE:	Aaron Douglas mural –Sign Permit No. 07-00200199

Please place the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at their August 23, 2007 meeting:

Spencer Museum of Art Aaron Douglas Mural Project

Project History. 

The sign permit application for this project was submitted to the Department of Neighborhood Resources on June 5, 2007.  The project is for a mural to be located on the north elevation of the structure located at 100 E 9^th Street, (Aquila building).

The Lawrence Historic Resource Commission (HRC) at their meeting on August 3, 2007 affirmed the administrative approval for the mural.

Project Status.

The Lawrence Arts Commission reviewed the proposed mural by Artist Dave Loewenstein and voted 8-0 with 2 abstentions at its August 15, 2007 meeting to recommend that the City Commission approve Sign Permit No. 07-00200199 as submitted by the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.

Action Request.  The Lawrence Arts Commission recommends that the City Commission approve the proposed mural and Sign Permit No. 07-00200199.
