Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the August 7, 2007 meeting:
Approval of a license agreement for a driveway in public right-of-way – Voelker property, N. 6th St and Walnut. This license agreement is for a proposed private driveway in public right-of-way (R/W) of N. 6th Street, south of Walnut Street, in north Lawrence.
Project History. The City has a 60-ft wide R/W for N 6th Street. However, there is currently no roadway constructed south of Walnut. There is an existing asphalt driveway in the R/W serving the property located at 602 Walnut. Mr. Scott Voelker owns the property to the west, adjacent to the city’s pump station site at 6th & Walnut. He is proposing to build a house and detached garage, and is asking for approval to construct the driveway to the garage within the 6th St R/W.
Proposed Project Details. To conform to city requirements, the garage must be located behind the house, which results in it being located behind the city’s pump station site. The garage is most easily accessible from the 6th St R/W rather than from Walnut. The access would utilize a part of the existing private driveway and extend it to the new garage. A site plan for the lot and the driveway is attached to the agreement.
Proposed Project Status. The owner has applied for a building permit for the structure. No work on the driveway has been started.
Project Funding. No city funding for construction or future maintenance is involved.
Action Request. Public Works staff requests approval of the license agreement.
