RE:	Initiating Text Amendment to 20-403, Uses in the IL District

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the June 19, 2007 meeting.

On behalf of the developer for Airport Industrial Park No. 1, Landplan Engineering has submitted a request that the City amend the Development Code to include the use “Restaurant, Quality” in the list of permitted uses in the IL (Limited Industrial) District.  The justification is presented in the attached letter. The applicant’s representative has requested that staff place this proposed text amendment on Planning Commission and City Commission agendas with the related development proposals.

The Development Code does not permit individuals to initiate code amendments. Section 20-1302 specifically authorizes only the City Commission or Planning Commission to initiate text amendments for future consideration.  To facilitate this request, staff is recommending that the City Commission initiate a text amendment for public hearing consideration at the July Planning Commission meeting.

Action:  Initiate text amendment for future public hearing at July Planning Commission meeting.
