TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISION
MEMORANDUM
TO: Charles Soules, Director of Public Works
FROM: David Woosley, Transportation/Traffic Engineer
DATE: 14 March 2007
SUBJECT: Traffic Safety Commission, March 5, 2007
21st Street & Tennessee Street
Agenda Item No. 4
At the March 5, 2007, Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING along the west side of Tennessee Street adjacent to 21st Street. Police Department records show three crashes during the past three years involving eastbound vehicles. In order to provide adequate sight distance, parking would have to be restricted for 125 feet north and 100 feet south of the driver’s eye which translates to 115 feet north and south of 21st Street in order to place the sign between properties.
The commission voted 4-3 to recommend approval of the request; Commissioner Bowen felt the residents needed the parking; Commissioner Miller felt that 3 crashes in three years was not a high crash rate; Commissioner Woods felt the intersection was not a problem and there was no need for the restriction.
