RE:

Lawrence Community Shelter UPR Extension Request

Loring Henderson, Director of the Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS), has requested an extension for the shelter’s existing Use Permitted upon Review (UPR) beyond the March 7, 2007 expiration date (see attached letter). While a renewal application for the UPR (now a Special Use Permit) was submitted on January 10, 2007 for the February Planning Commission meeting, there is not sufficient time for the City Commission to take action on the Planning Commission’s recommendation prior to March 7, 2007.

Additionally, the February Planning Commission meeting is reserved for consent and non-controversial agenda items to allow Planning Staff to participate in the up-coming PlaceMaker’s Traditional Neighborhood Design charrette process. As such, staff anticipates that the LCS Special Use Permit application will be considered by the Planning Commission on March 28, 2007, with City Commission consideration on April 17, 2007.

Staff recommends that the shelter’s existing UPR be extended to April 17, 2007.
