RE:	Eastbound Right Turn Lane from K-10 onto O’Connell Road Project No. 35-GI1-704(BD) K-10 and O’Connell Road Geometric and Waterline Improvements October 24, 2006 Agenda Item

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the October 24, 2006 meeting:

Engineering Contract.  This is an amendment to the original contract which included a westbound left turn lane from K-10 onto O’Connell Road.  Peridian Group, Inc. is the firm providing engineering/design for the westbound left turn lane.  They have familiarity with the project and worked with KDOT on the original project.  The design will include the construction of a right turn lane meeting KDOT’s standards.

Project History.   In April of 2005 the City Commission approved Resolution 6585 establishing the benefit district and ordering the construction of the westbound left turn lane on K-10 to southbound O’Connell Road.  The plans for this project are complete.  With the continued proposed development of the area (Fairfield Farms, east and west) an eastbound right turn lane is also necessary.  Tying these projects into a larger project should improve construction costs.  These improvements should be completed next summer, 2007. 

On October 17, 2006 the City Commission held the public hearing ordering and directing the improvements and approved Resolution 6686 establishing the benefit district.  The estimated cost for the project is $794,585 with 100% paid by the benefit district.

Cost.  The proposed cost for engineering services is $28,885.00.

Action Request.  Authorize City Manager to enter into an agreement with Peridian Group, Inc. in the amount of $28,885.00 for engineering services of the eastbound right turn lane from K-10 onto O’Connell Road.
