CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

KDOT Provides Analysis of US-40 Speed Limit

In April the City requested that KDOT obtain speed data on US-40 across the Kansas River Bridge and at Locust and review the posted speed.  KDOT proceeded to obtain data and comment from KDOT District/Area personnel.  Based on the results of KDOT field studies and crash analysis, the existing 40 mph is an acceptable speed limit for this section of roadway along US-40.  The attached memo explains.

Public Works Infrastructure Improvement Projects

§         Concurrent with the replacement of the intersection at 6th and Walnut, the stormwater crew installed inlet and junction boxes and tied into a nearby storm sewer manhole. This was done to address water holes on both sides of the street.  See attached photos of the project.

§         During a curb and gutter replacement project along 27th street, Public Works replaced a catch basin lid with a standard throat and formed up the inside so all the contractor had to do was pour the gutter.  See attached photos of the project.  An inlet on the other side of the street was also replaced.

§         The Utilities Department dug up a broken sewer under the breeze way in the parking lot in the 800 block of Vermont. There is a storm sewer that drains the roof and the parking lot but had no access into it. The Public Works stormwater crew took advantage of the side walk being excavated and installed a junction box.  See attached photos of the project.
