RE:	Project No. 27-GI2-505(S) N. 2^nd and Locust KDOT Speed Data

In April I requested that KDOT obtain speed data on US-40 across the Kansas River Bridge and at Locust and review the posted speed.  KDOT proceeded to obtain data and comment from KDOT District/Area personnel.

Information:  Speed data obtained April 19, 2006 indicated the 85^th percentile speed on the bridge at 36.8 mph and at Locust the speed was 38.4 mph.  The crash rate was calculated for the period of January 2003 through December 2005 at 5.77 crashes per ten-million entering vehicles which is below the state wide average of 10.00 for urban intersections.

Based on the results of KDOT field studies and crash analysis, the existing 40 mph is an acceptable speed limit for this section of roadway along US-40.
