RE:

Kansas Community Services Program Act

 

The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, Inc., has requested a letter of support (local government endorsement), for their application to the Kansas Department of Commerce under the Kansas Community Service Program Act, K.S.A. 79-32,194 et seq.  This act was initiated on July 1, 1994 and authorizes Kansas income tax credits for approved contributions made to awarded non-profit organizations by individuals, business firms, financial institution and insurance companies for projects awarded and approved through the Community Service Program of the Kansas Dept. of Commerce.  Part of the review criteria includes demonstration of the project’s level of community support. (K.A.R. 110-7-8)

 

The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, Inc., plans to seek approval for use of tax credits for a project to install an elevator and make other ADA required improvements to their facility.  Project Letter  Application

 

The Salvation Army of Lawrence and Douglas County is also requesting a letter of support for their application to the Kansas Department of Commerce for their building project to construct their planned new facility.  They plan to use the tax credits to seek donations for their capital campaign currently underway.

 

Action Requested:

Authorize the Mayor to sign letters and execution of the Local Government Endorsement Form,  in support of the applications of the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, Inc., and the Salvation Army of Lawrence and Douglas County,  to the Kansas Department of Commerce for tax credits under the Kansas Community Service Program Act.
