Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   Lawrence Chapter, KSAEYC, in conjunction with the Kansas Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, is focused on spreading awareness of the importance of high-quality early childhood education and providing resources and professional support to early childhood educators and directors in Douglas County and outlying areas and;

 

WHEREAS:   Participation in high-quality early childhood education saves taxpayer dollars, makes working families more economically secure, and prepares children to succeed in school, earn higher wages, and live healthier lives and;

 

WHEREAS:   Many early childhood educators earn poverty-level wages, live in families accessing public benefits and work second jobs; and do not have basic workplace benefits, such as health insurance and paid sick leave and;

 

WHEREAS:   Early Childhood Educators need the ability to earn a family-sustaining wage that is commensurate with the required education and skills they bring to the complex and valuable work they do and;

 

WHEREAS:   Children need skilled, educated, competent, consistent, and compensated early childhood educators.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim May 6 – 10, 2019 as the

 

week of the early childhood educator

 

in the City of Lawrence in honor of all those committed to enhancing the lives of young children and their families and encourage all citizens to support the investments for education and compensation that will benefit all of Lawrence’s Early Childhood Educators.
