Adopt on first reading Ordinance No. 9636, adopting and incorporating by reference the 2018 International Fire Code, regulating fire prevention and protection within the City of Lawrence, Kansas, if appropriate. |

Executive Summary: |
The Fire Code Board of Appeals for the City of Lawrence has completed its review of the 2018 International Fire Code. Final amendment changes of Article 2 were approved by the Board during its February 12, 2019 meeting. The following amendments were made during this process: 1) Throughout the document the wording 2018 International Fire Code was updated from the previously adopted 2015 International Fire Code. 2) The Board also provided the updated Remote Gate Control System now required for mechanical gates. The “Click2Enter” device was identified as the device to be installed on electric gate openers. This replaces “Opticom” as previously written. 3) Section 1103.5.1; Fire Sprinklers in existing Group A-2 Occupancies was amended by the board to provide “the owner of such establishment shall have two calendar years from the adoption of the code to be in compliance with this code section.” 4) In section 5601.1.3 regarding Fireworks, the word “possession” was added. |
