Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:        Positive Bright Start, and other organizations in the Lawrence area that provide early childhood care and education and support services to families with young children, in conjunction with the National and Kansas Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 8 - 12 2019;  and

WHEREAS:        The first years of a child’s life are the period of the most rapid brain development and lay the foundation for all future learning; and

WHEREAS:        Children’s cognitive, physical, social, emotional, language and literacy development are built on a foundation of children’s positive interactions with adults, peers and their environment; and

WHEREAS:        High quality early childhood programs provide important benefits to children, families and our state and nation’s economies; and

WHEREAS:        High quality early care and education can help amend the effects of poverty, detect and remediate delays, identify and help prevent child neglect and lead to positive outcomes for individual children, helping them be better prepared for school and lifelong success.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of April 8 - 12, 2019, as

“THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD”

in Lawrence and encourage all citizens to work to make a good investment in early childhood.
