Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:     National Library Week is an annual event dedicated to celebrating all that libraries do for their communities and provides unique opportunities for citizens to support the Lawrence Public Library; and

 

WHEREAS:     The Lawrence Public Library is a resource that welcomes all members of our community regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status, by offering services and educational resources that transform lives and bring us together; and

 

WHEREAS:     The Lawrence Public Library will celebrate National Library Week with a series of special events, including fifty percent off of library late fees all week long; and

 

WHEREAS:     Opportunities to support the library include a dine-in at Jefferson’s Downtown and Blue Moose; getting “inked for the library” with a flash tattoo by Standard Electric; participating in the first ever National Library Giving Day; shopping at the Friends’ of the Library Spring Book Sale; and a special Drag Bingo night with Deja Brooks.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim April 7 – 13, 2019 to be

 

“NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK”

 

and encourage all residents to visit the Lawrence Public Library this week, pick out a good read, explore what’s new, and remember to thank your local librarian.
