Approve 2019 Community Arts Grants as recommended by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission

Executive Summary:

The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission’s Community Arts Grant program began in 1995 with the expressed purpose of providing grant funds intended as start-up money for projects or special community art-related ventures with a particular focus on encouraging the arts within the Lawrence community.  Since the Community Arts Grant program inception, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission has provided grant funding totaling approximately $173,000 to over 165 organizations and artists.

This year, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission’s 25th Annual Community Arts Grant recommendations were selected based on criteria derived from the City-Wide Cultural Plan. A total of fourteen applications representing requests for $55,205 were submitted.

After the eligible Cultural Arts Commissioners reviewed each grant and provided their preliminary scores individually, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission deliberated at its March 20, 2019 meeting and unanimously agreed to recommend to the City Commission approval for the following 2019 Community Arts Grants:

  • Hall Center for the Humanities - $2,500
