Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: In 2019, the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee is celebrating its thirty-second year as an organization in Lawrence; and
WHEREAS: The parade committee encompasses four basic themes, to honor Irish Americans and their contributions to America, to celebrate the legend and spirit of St. Patrick through a fun, good old-fashioned parade, to promote an atmosphere of benevolence, friendship, and cooperation through the parade and other associated events, and to support and exemplify the idea that charity and goodwill begins at home, benefiting your friends, neighbors, and the Lawrence community;
WHEREAS: This years’ parade will be dedicated to the founders of the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee: Bill Sullivan, Mike Rebich, Wes Kabler, Mike Jones, Mike Wilson, and Gene Shaughnessy; in memory of founder Bill Sullivan, Bill was a World War II veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart. Bill worked as a camera man for ABC for 40 years and received 7 Emmy awards for his work.
WHEREAS: The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is self-supporting, and depends solely on the resources of interested businesses and citizens who donate their time, talents, and good humor to sponsor worthwhile charitable causes on a yearly basis;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 17, 2019, for the day of the City of Lawrence’s
and thank the citizens of Lawrence for supporting The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee’s charity fundraisers during the months of February and March.
