Executive Summary: |
In recent history the east (and most frequently used) elevator in the New Hampshire Street Parking Garage has experienced episodes in which the elevator physically becomes stuck in the passageway. These instances have left patrons trapped inside the elevator. Responses to the entrapment require either maintenance staff or Fire Medical staff responses. City staff has worked with our contracted maintenance provider for elevator service to determine root cause of these issue and has developed a scope of work that will repair and rehabilitate the elevator to ensure a properly working and reliable piece of equipment. This item is funded in the 2019 Budget and CIP (CIP# PW20B4) through the issuance of general obligation bonds. On Feb 5, 2019, the Commission authorized the issuance of debt for this project (Resolution No. 7281).
The New Hampshire Parking Garage is a four-level precast T constructed parking structure that contains two elevators, five stair towers and 1200 square feet of office space. Construction of this facility was completed in October of 2001 and serves community needs by supplying parking areas for access to the Lawrence Arts Center as well as to downtown shopping and businesses.
