Authorize letter of City support and permission for the Douglas County Historical Society to submit a grant application on behalf of the City of Lawrence to the Douglas County Heritage Grant program for signage at the Grover Barn Underground Railroad site, a city facility located at 2819 Stonebarn Terrace.

Executive Summary: |
The Guardians of Grover Barn and the Douglas County Historical Society are requesting authorization of the City to submit a letter of support for funding for interpretive signage at the Grover Barn Underground Railroad Site, which is owned by the City. The site is located on Stonebarn Terrace and is currently utilized for storage by the Lawrence/Douglas County Fire/Medical Department and the Lawrence Police Department. The group made similar requests for grant funding in 2017 and 2018, which were not funded. It appears this is a good opportunity to secure interpretive signage for this historical property. The City would approve the signage that would be placed, if the grant is funded, and also provide for its installation. |

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source): |
There is no fiscal impact to the City. No match is required, and the Douglas County Historical Society would manage the grant on behalf of the City. Labor from the City would be required for installation. |
