Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   The roots of Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) began in 1968 through the vision of Marilyn (Lyn) Rothwell, RN, to bring homecare to Lawrence, Kansas.  Lyn worked with Dr. Ralph Reed, the Honorable Fred Six, and innumerable other community leaders to launch her dream, and with much perseverance, Lyn’s vision was first realized on February 2, 1969; and

 

WHEREAS:   A committed staff of four registered nurses, one physical therapist, and four aides provided more than 2,600 visits to 89 patients in VNA’s first year; and

 

WHEREAS:   VNA has evolved to include hospice care and other in-home support services and technologies to meet the changing needs of our community, and in 2018, staff and volunteers across VNA programs were responsible for caring for nearly 1,700 residents of Lawrence and Douglas County; and

 

WHEREAS:   Over the course of its 50-year history to Lawrence and Douglas County, VNA has served nearly 40,000 individuals, with more than 1.6 million visits.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2019 as
