Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: Read Across Lawrence is an annual, community-wide reading event that encourages everyone in Lawrence to read and discuss the same book. Now in its 17th year, Read Across Lawrence commences on February 4 and closes on March 3, 2019; and
WHEREAS: This year’s program features three books for children, teens, and adults. A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff is the selection for children, The Doughnut Fix by Jessie Janowitz is the selection for teens, and Sourdough by Robin Sloan is the selection for adults. All three of these books capture the way food brings people together and how the creative impulse can change your life; and
WHEREAS: Together with the University of Kansas Libraries, Lawrence Public Schools, and other community partners, the Lawrence Public Library will host book discussions and activities for all ages to explore the themes in each book; and
WHEREAS: The Lawrence Public Library hopes everyone will read the books, attend events, and be inspired by the themes of creativity and community that each book espouses.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Larsen Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim February 4 through March 3, 2019 as
