Receive recommendations from the Community Police Review Board regarding proposed changes to the ordinance creating the Community Police Review Board. |
Executive Summary: |
During its meetings in October 2018, December 2018, and January 2019, the Community Police Review Board (CPRB) discussed recommended changes to the ordinance creating the Community Police Review Board. In the attached memo, the Board Chair explains the proposed changes and rationale. Staff would note, and mentioned to the CPRB during its discussion, that the City’s policy on advisory boards has general language regarding board appointees. That language indicates that persons being appointed to an advisory board, committee, or commission should be a resident of the City, or own a business within the City. The language in the CPRB ordinance as originally written reflects this language.
Should the Commission wish to pursue the changes to the ordinance as recommended by the CPRB, it should provide that direction to staff so that changes to the ordinance can be prepared and placed on an agenda for consideration. The Commission could take this item under advisement, or direct future action on the item, including a review from legal staff on the proposed changes.
