ORDINANCE NO. 9576

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, AMENDING CHAPTER XVII, ARTICLE 1, SECTION 17-105 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, 2018 EDITION, AND AMENDMENTS THERETO, PERTAINING TO THE DESIGNATION OF CROSSWALKS AND SAFETY ZONES, AND REPEALING EXISTING SECTION 17-105.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

SECTION 1. Chapter XVII, Article 1, Section 17-105 of the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, 2018 Edition, and amendments thereto, is hereby amended to read as follows:

17-105              AMENDMENTS TO STO; DESIGNATION OF CROSSWALKS AND SAFETY ZONES.

Section 19.  Designation of Crosswalks is amended to read as follows:

The City Traffic Engineer Manager or his or her  designee is authorized, on the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, to designate and maintain by appropriate devices, marks or lines on the surface of the roadway, crosswalks at intersections where there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing the roadway and at such other places as may be deemed necessary.

SECTION 2. Section 17-105 of the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, 2018 Edition and amendments thereto, is hereby repealed, it being the intent that the provisions of this ordinance supersede the repealed Code sections.

SECTION 3. If any section, sentence, clause, or phrase of this ordinance is found to be unconstitutional or is otherwise held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect the validity of any remaining parts of this ordinance.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force after its passage and publication as provided by law.
