Business Recruitment targets:

-          Advanced Manufacturing

-          Specialized Engineering

-          Scientific Research & Development

-          Info-Tech

 

Joint KU/EDC/Community Efforts

-          Various KU Career Services integrated to Chamber membership/communications to directly communicate events/career opportunities to local business community

-          Joint plan development for West Campus; Innovation Zone/Research Park

-          Connect First mentorship program with KU Honors

-          Lawrence/Douglas County Career event scheduled for 02/19/19

 

Future Industrial Sites

-          After multi-year effort, zeroing in on the next industrial site

-          From 10 sites, narrowed to one

-          Approximately 155 acres

-          Partnership with city is critical to moving forward

 

Opportunity Zones and New Markets Tax Credits

-          Lawrence was fortunate enough to receive two OZ designations

-          Includes both main and west campus and everything east side of Mass Street to Noria Road

-          We are working to understand the implications of both designations and how best to leverage them

-          OZ seminar/educational meeting planned for 01/15/18

 

Catalyst Program:

-          More than 300,000 square feet of industrial space exist in our community as direct result of this program

-          Three projects, roughly $43MM in investment, and at least 60 new jobs

-          One of the strongest ED tools we have at present

 

Expansion overall:

-          Manufacturing sector has seen significant growth in last 12-24 months for various reasons

-          API Foils moved headquarters to Lawrence from New Jersey; expanded 20,000SF

-          Amarr/Entrematic completed an internal, equipment expansion

-          Berry Plastic completed a $7+ million internal expansion to add new production line and compete with other locations within the company

-          Allen Press has invested heavily in new equipment, particularly for digital print services

-          Hallmark has expanded its workforce by approximately 80 employees

-           Hilary’s Eat Well added space and consolidated some of its warehousing and operations to Lawrence

 

Business Recruitment

-          Approximately 50 recruitment projects seen through 2018

-          11 are currently viable for Lawrence

-          Two are in the final stages of considerations for Lawrence
