Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

 

WHEREAS:   Alzheimer’s is a disease that is accompanied by symptoms of memory loss called dementia.  Nearly six million adults in the United States suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and a new sufferer is diagnosed every seven seconds; and

                            

WHEREAS:   The dementia related symptoms that accompany diseases such as Alzheimer’s may include loss of mental function in areas such as: language, memory, visual, spatial abilities and judgment. There is no existing cure for Alzheimer’s, but promising studies are being led by researchers in our region; and

 

WHEREAS:   Bridge Haven Memory Care in Lawrence, Kansas focuses on caring for individuals in four small and less confusing home-style settings and continue to advocate for better treatments and for a cure.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stuart Boley, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of November 2018 as

 

“ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS MONTH”

 

in Lawrence and urge all citizens to extend their support for those struggling with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones.
